Facebook v Google+

Some people feel that there is a storm brewing in Social Media with the rise of Google + and the recent complaints of advertising poisoning Facebook, however some people think that there is no such thing and the Facebook World that we live in will keep its colossal strong hold. All I know is that this battle is getting very interesting and it could last a lot longer.

When Google + was first introduced I thought there was going to be an imminent move over to Google+ which offered an alternative, something fresh and something with a much cleaner environment. Yet just last Thursday, Google stated it now had 250 million Plus users and Facebook stated that it had 901 million users meaning that Facebook grew more in the last year than the whole of the Google + population absolutely squashing rumours that Google+ would be the next up and coming social network.

So where did they go wrong, pin-pointing it in my opinion would be hard but there was a definite mess up in the way they handled trying to get rid of all the different fake accounts and the four month abeyance before letting brands set up their accounts. However that was not going to be an easy process and whichever Social Network in my opinion masters this, and cleans our Social Networking experience is the one that will be the one leading in 5 years’ time if not sooner.

Facebook is changing and not for the better with the pollution of advertising, Timeline, fake accounts and the ever present removing of tagging because of family friends and bosses. I grew up in the Bebo Age where we all moved to Facebook because of all these reasons and of course it was the new apparent cooler Social Network to use and although the figures over the past year say otherwise, my opinion is that people are crying out for a change and although Google+ hasn’t come up with the goods, change needs to ensue.
