Creating a Global Digital Hub for Customs Professionals

The Challenge

The Customs Knowledge Institute (CKI) is an international not-for-profit network bringing together customs and trade professionals from across Ireland, the UK, Europe and beyond.

With a growing community of members, an expanding library of knowledge resources and a range of training, webinars, podcasts and professional services, CKI needed a new website that could better reflect the scale and ambition of the organisation.

The new website needed to do more than provide information about CKI. It needed to become a central digital hub for the organisation – helping professionals discover the community, access knowledge, connect with experts, explore training opportunities and engage with CKI.

The challenge was to bring these different elements together within a website that was clear, professional and easy to navigate, while creating a platform that could continue to develop as the organisation and its international community grow.

Our Solution

exSite worked closely with the Customs Knowledge Institute to design and develop a new website that brings together CKI’s organisation, community, training and knowledge resources within one cohesive digital platform.

The new website provides a much clearer journey for the different audiences interacting with CKI, from customs professionals looking to develop their knowledge to businesses seeking specialist expertise and organisations interested in joining the Customs Knowledge Community.

The website provides dedicated areas for:

  • The Customs Knowledge Institute
  • The Customs Knowledge Community
  • CKI experts
  • Membership
  • Training and courses
  • Webinars and events
  • Podcasts
  • News and insights
  • Knowledge resources
  • Professional enquiries

This creates a much more structured online experience while giving CKI the flexibility to continually add new content, members, resources and opportunities.

Connecting an International Community

One of the key objectives of the project was to put CKI’s community at the heart of the new website.

The Customs Knowledge Community brings together professionals working across customs, international trade, logistics, consultancy, education and related disciplines. Members can share knowledge, discuss current issues and collaborate with other professionals.

The new website makes this community more visible, helping visitors understand the benefits of membership while giving members greater opportunities to showcase their expertise.

Showcasing Industry Experts

A particularly important part of the new website is the ability to showcase CKI’s expert network.

Many CKI members have extensive experience across customs, international trade, compliance, legislation, training and consultancy. The new website provides a dedicated platform for highlighting this expertise and helping visitors identify professionals who may be able to assist with specific requirements.

This transforms the website from simply being an information resource into a valuable connection point between customs professionals and organisations looking for specialist knowledge.

Bringing Knowledge and Training Together

Knowledge sharing is central to CKI’s mission.

The new website provides dedicated areas for training courses, online learning, podcasts, webinars, news and other resources, making it easier for visitors to discover the wealth of knowledge produced by CKI and its members.

From customs legislation and compliance to international trade developments, the website provides a central location where professionals can explore relevant content and continue developing their expertise.

CKI’s training programme includes online courses and professional development content designed to help customs and trade professionals strengthen their practical knowledge and skills.

A Website Built for Different Audiences

CKI’s audience is broad and international, ranging from students and developing professionals to experienced customs specialists, consultants, businesses and educational organisations.

The new website has therefore been structured around clear user journeys, allowing visitors to quickly identify what is relevant to them.

Whether someone wants to:

  • Join the Customs Knowledge Community
  • Find a customs expert
  • Explore training
  • Access industry knowledge
  • Listen to the CKI podcast
  • Discover upcoming events

or simply learn more about CKI, the new website provides a clear route to the information they need.

Membership at the Heart of the Website

The Customs Knowledge Community is a key part of CKI’s offering, with individual and corporate membership available to professionals and organisations involved in customs and international trade.

The new website makes the membership proposition much clearer, providing visitors with information about the community, its benefits and how to become a member.

The website also provides the foundation for CKI’s ongoing member engagement, allowing the organisation to continue developing its online community and the resources available to members.

A Flexible Platform for Future Growth

As an international organisation operating in a rapidly changing sector, CKI’s website needs to evolve alongside the customs and trade landscape.

The new platform provides CKI with a flexible foundation for publishing new content, adding experts, promoting training and events, developing its member offering and sharing the latest developments affecting the industry.

This means the website isn’t simply a new digital presence – it is a platform that can continue to grow with CKI.

The Result

The new Customs Knowledge Institute website brings together CKI’s international community, expert network, training and knowledge resources within one modern digital platform.

The result is a clearer, more engaging and more useful online experience for both members and visitors, while giving CKI the tools it needs to continue expanding its international network.

By putting people, knowledge and professional development at the centre of the website, exSite has created a digital platform that reflects CKI’s role as a growing centre for customs knowledge and professional collaboration.
