Google’s Mobile Friendly Algorithm Update

In a bold move by Google, they announced that starting April 21st they will take into account the “responsiveness” of a website—how usable a website is on smartphones and tablets—when ranking it on its search results pages.

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

As you can imagine, this is great news if you have a website that is optimised for smartphones and tablets. Not so much if you have an older site built with only desktop screens in mind. Take this free mobile-friendliness test offered by Google’s developers to see if your website complies.
